In this workshop Maria will show you how to make a fabulous garment with a negative pattern to ensure minimal waste. She demonstrates simple ways to create different styles of necklines and sleeves with this easy to follow pattern.

Materials

  • Fabric

  • Scissors

  • Chalk

  • Pins

  • Ruler

  • Sewing machine

  • Thread or elastic shirring

  • Bust (optional)

METHOD

Strategic garment cutting

Cut a negative pattern - trace neckline and sleeve holes

Trace neckline and sleeve holes.

Lay out fabric for cutting If you would like two of the same shape. Fold two sections of material together and place on top of one another

Place negative pattern pieces on fabric and cut shapes

Lay out fabric for cutting If you would like two of the same shape.

Pin material to model or lay flat

Pin in pleats around the collar.

Use left over material for appliques and panels for other garments
