Student Maker


For students

Student Maker is your entry point into a statewide community of creative practitioners. artisan offers emerging Queensland makers valuable opportunities for creative development from the very beginning with real access to programs that nurture your capability and introduce you to exhibition culture, while giving you your first look at how to generate an income from your creative practice.

If you’re a full-time student, this tier gives you benefits designed to help you level up your skills and network at an affordable price.

artisan’s Professional Maker tier puts Queensland makers at the centre of their own career development.

Professional Maker is the full career pathway tier. It spans all three pillars, Exchange, Exhibit, and Enterprise, giving practicing makers the tools, visibility, and market connections to grow a sustainable creative practice in Queensland and beyond.

This isn't a passive membership program. It's a working relationship between artisan and Queensland's practicing makers.

What is artisan associates?

artisan associates is artisan’s membership program for Queensland's craft and design community. It's built around three pillars. Exchange, Exhibit, and Enterprise to build makers' capability, profile, and income. Together, they create a pathway from studio to market.

Who is artisan associates for?

Anyone connected to Queensland's craft and design sector. There are tiers for students and early-career makers, practicing professionals, collectors and peers such as organisations and guilds, galleries, councils, and design industry bodies.

How is artisan associates different from other industry memberships?

artisan associates is built to support the three pillars of artisan’s Exchange, Exhibit, and Enterprise programs. Four tiers include Student Maker, Professional Maker, Collector, and Peer, so every associate knows what they get and how it grows with their practice or benefits their support.

Student Makers get mentoring and early exposure to exhibitions, skills exchange and retail. Professional Makers get the full pathway with promotion, opportunities for income, commissions, corporate gifting. Collectors directly support the makers, knowledge and opportunities that keep Queensland's craft and design sector alive. Peers become strategic partners, building a cultural capability that supports makers, audiences, skills, infrastructure and tourism statewide.

This is the Makers' State: one pathway, from student to institution.

Soon, all associates will be able to add insurance to their membership for even more benefit.


Choosing a tier

Which tier is right for me?

Student Maker suits students and early-career practitioners. Professional Maker suits practicing craft and design professionals. Collector suits enthusiasts and dedicated supporters of Queensland makers. Peer suits organisations such as galleries, councils, education providers, and industry bodies. If you're unsure, our team is happy to help get in touch and we'll point you in the right direction.

Can I move between tiers later?

Yes. You can contact us through the artisan associates portal and we will walk you through the process.

What does 'by invitation' mean for exhibition opportunities?

artisan may invite expressions of interest for exhibition opportunities for makers and curators. These may be targeted to specific regions or disciplines depending on the opportunity.

What is a Speed Crit?

Speed Crits provide a unique opportunity to meet with an industry expert who can critique your work and provide advice on getting it to market.

What are 'market development and showcasing opportunities'?

Market development and showcasing opportunities for Professional Maker associates include facilitated access to markets, such as artisan Fields, PopUps, and/or curated retail placements.


Membership and payment

How much does membership cost?

Student Maker is $65 per year or $6 per month. Professional Maker is $150 per year or $13 per month. Collector is $170 per year or $15 per month, and Peer is $385 per year or $33 per month. 

How do I join?

Select your tier on the artisan associates membership page and follow the prompts to complete payment. You will receive an email confirming your payment and inviting you to login into the associates portal and create a password. 

How does membership renew?

Membership renews automatically. artisan will send a renewal reminder 30 days before expiry. A member can cancel their membership at any time by notifying artisan in writing via artisan associates portal contact form. Cancellation takes effect from the date artisan acknowledge the notice.

Can I get a refund if I change my mind?

artisan offers a 14-day change of mind period as a goodwill measure. If you join the program online and change your mind within 14 days of activation, you may request a full refund of the annual fee, provided you have not redeemed any member benefits during that period.

Is public liability insurance included?

Insurance is not included in the base membership fee. artisan is currently investigating an insurance package as an added benefit and will notify members when this is available.


Current members

I'm already an artisan member. What happens to my membership?

Your current membership continues until its renewal date. We'll be in touch directly with a tier recommendation.

Will my membership benefits change?

The new tiers are designed to give you more than before. Most current members will find their recommended tier includes everything they currently receive, plus additional benefits across Exchange, Exhibit, and Enterprise. If you have questions about your specific benefits, reply to the email from Carmel or get in touch directly.


MADE2026 Symposium

What is MADE2026?

MADE2026 is Queensland's first contemporary craft and design symposium, being held on 10 September 2026. It brings together makers, designers, collectors, and industry leaders from across the state and the country. Join now for an immediate MADE2026 benefit

The artisan associates offer is timed so you receive an immediate benefit: discounted tickets to the MADE2026 Symposium in September. Early bird tickets close on 20 August (or until sold out), so join before this date to combine your member discount with early bird pricing. After 20 August, your membership discount still applies, but to the full ticket price.

What kind of organisations can join as Peer associates?

Peer associations and guilds, regional galleries, local councils, community groups, education providers, arts organisations, and other creative industry bodies that share artisan’s commitment to Queensland's craft and design sector.
